Squire Patton Boggs hires Luis Belart and Fermín Garbayo
Luis Belart and Fermín Garbayo have officially joined Squire Patton Boggs from Dentons, following final approval from the firm’s international board. Belart joins as Head of Financial Services, while Garbayo becomes Of Counsel responsible for infrastructure and energy projects.
Belart joins as partner and Head of Financial Services, while Garbayo joins as Of Counsel, with responsibility for infrastructure and energy projects, strengthening Squire Patton Boggs’ Madrid office across two closely connected areas.
The confirmation comes just days after Iberian Lawyer reported Belart’s departure from Dentons and his appointment as independent business development adviser to start-up T&Tech (here the news). A role that is separate from his return to private practice at Squire Patton Boggs.
Belart’s choice of law firm had remained open until very recently. Iberian Lawyer understands from sources that he had also been considering another UK law firm before ultimately opting for Squire Patton Boggs.
The move also brings Fermín Garbayo, until now partner and head of Dentons’ Energy practice in Spain, to the firm. Garbayo has more than 25 years of experience advising on energy and infrastructure matters, with a particular focus on the development, acquisition and financing of projects in the sector. At Squire Patton Boggs, his role will focus on infrastructure and energy projects, complementing Belart’s Financial Services practice and reinforcing the firm’s capabilities in transactions where financing, infrastructure and energy increasingly intersect.
Belart, meanwhile, leaves Dentons after more than a decade at the firm, where he was a partner in the Banking and Finance practice. His work focuses on structured and leveraged finance, project finance, acquisition finance, refinancings, restructurings and other domestic and cross-border financing transactions.
