Squire Patton Boggs hires Enrique Luzón as of counsel
Squire Patton Boggs has appointed Enrique Luzón as of counsel in its Litigation Practice Group in Madrid. He joins from Gómez-Acebo & Pombo. The hire aims at strengthening the firm’s disputes and white collar crime capabilities in Spain, following the recent addition of former State attorney Lorena Fatás to the Madrid team, states Squire Patton Boggs.
Luzón advises national and international clients on criminal proceedings before the Spanish courts and has been involved in several high-profile cases in Spain. He also focuses on criminal compliance matters, including the implementation of compliance programs, prevention of criminal risk, and management of whistle-blowing channels and internal investigations.
Among his recent matters, Luzón defended a company in the optical sector before the Supreme Court of Spain, securing the revocation of sentences imposed for tax fraud offences. He also represented directors of a Luxembourg financial services company in criminal proceedings before the Central Criminal Courts of Spain concerning money laundering charges tied to an international trade operation between Spain and Angola, and acted for the former CEO of a bank’s real estate division in proceedings before the Central Criminal Courts on embezzlement charges linked to investments and acquisitions in Spain, Mexico and Hungary.
Before joining Squire Patton Boggs, Luzón held senior positions at other international and national law firms and worked as a lecturer in Criminal Law at Universidad Carlos III Madrid and Universidad de Vigo, as well as an invited speaker at several Latin American universities. He currently teaches on master’s programs at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Universidad San Pablo CEU. He holds a law degree and a post-graduate Master’s degree in business law from Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, speaks English, French and Spanish, and has been a member of the Madrid Bar Association since 2001.
