Javier Cremades receives Bologna Honorary Post-Doctorate
Javier Cremades, President of the World Jurist Association and founder of the law firm Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo, has been awarded the Honorary Post-Doctorate by the University of Bologna, one of the most prestigious recognitions in the field of law. The ceremony took place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bologna, the oldest law school in the world, established in 1088, which has educated nearly a thousand generations of jurists from across the globe.
Cremades, originally from Málaga, Spain, was honored alongside Mohammed Al-Isa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League. Al-Isa was recognized for his work promoting human dignity and peaceful coexistence among civilizations.
The honorary distinction was presented to Cremades by Giovanni Molari, Rector of the University of Bologna, alongside Professors Anna Lisa Boni and Rita Monticello, the Dean of the Bologna Bar Association, and Luca Mezzetti, Professor of Constitutional Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law. During his speech lauding the Spanish jurist, Mezzetti highlighted Cremades’ efforts to promote peace through the rule of law and his leadership in mobilizing presidents of courts, academics, and lawyers worldwide as part of the World Jurist Association.
In his acceptance speech, Cremades, the first Spaniard to lead this Washington-based NGO with consultative status at the United Nations, emphasized a fundamental principle for a civilized society: “We are either governed by laws or by force. Only under the rule of law can the dignity of every individual be fully and effectively protected.”
This recognition underscores Cremades’ significant contributions to the advancement of legal principles and his dedication to fostering global collaboration in the pursuit of justice and peace.
