Iberdrola calls for grid investment to boost electrification
Iberdrola has highlighted the importance of electrification, legal certainty and investment in electricity grids to strengthen Europe’s energy sovereignty and competitiveness during the first edition of its Legal Forum.
In his opening remarks, Iberdrola’s executive chairman, Ignacio Galán, emphasised the benefits of electrification in reducing external energy dependence and improving competitiveness, while underlining the need to increase investment in electricity networks.
The discussions also focused on the need to accelerate electrification by making greater use of domestic energy resources, reducing exposure to price volatility and facilitating investment in new infrastructure.
Participants stressed the importance of predictable regulatory incentives, faster permitting procedures and improved planning to develop electricity grids capable of supporting the energy transition.
Energy taxation was another key topic, with calls for greater alignment between European policies and national implementation, alongside tax frameworks that encourage electrification and remove barriers to investment.
