EY Abogados hires Ignacio Grangel as partner
EY Abogados has incorporated Ignacio Grangel as the partner responsible for its public Law and regulated Sectors area. He also joins the team that makes up the firm’s Energy Sector practice.
Grangel said the new role allows him to contribute his experience to the firm’s growth and to work with a team of professionals to provide services in which regulation, and its balance with business vision, forms an ambitious and differentiating objective.
The profile
Grangel is a State Attorney on leave (Abogado del Estado en excedencia) with a career linked to the energy field, having held roles in both public administration and the private sector. He holds a law degree from the University of Zaragoza and joined the State Attorneys’ Corps in 2004, appearing before nearly all jurisdictional bodies and in investment arbitration, including work as State Attorney before the Audiencia Nacional in regulated sectors such as energy, telecommunications and public procurement.
Between 2012 and 2015, Grangel led the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Energy, a period during which he took part in drafting energy regulation. He later served as director of Legal Advisory and deputy secretary general at Red Eléctrica between 2015 and 2017. Following that role, he acted as an independent director of Enagás, member of the Committee of Experts on Energy Transition Scenarios (a group set up by the Council of Ministers in July 2017) and chairman of the Iberian Electricity Market Operator. In 2019, he joined a national law firm as the partner in charge of the Public Law and Regulated Sectors department, where he advised on regulatory matters in the energy and telecommunications sectors, litigation and arbitration, and on acquisitions and disposals of energy assets for national and international clients.
