WFW promotes Lidia Fernández and Javier Ruffín to partners in Spain
Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) has promoted Lidia Fernández and Javier Ruffín to the firm’s partnership in Spain. They will work within the regulatory and corporate and M&A teams in Madrid, respectively. Following these appointments, which form part of the promotion of seven new partners globally, the Madrid office will have 15 partners.
Lidia was previously a counsel in the regulatory group before being promoted to partner. She specialises in energy sector regulation and advises domestic and international clients on renewable energy projects and emerging technologies, including BESS and data centres. She brings a broad perspective that combines regulation, project development and contentious experience, with a strong commercial focus.
Javier Ruffín has experience in corporate and M&A transactions and projects, with a focus on the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. He advises domestic and international clients across the project lifecycle, as well as on complex transactions in Spain and internationally, including acquisitions and joint ventures, for all types of clients, including funds, utilities, IPPs and developers.
María Pilar García Guijarro, energy sectorhead for Europe & Americas and head of the Madrid office, commented: “This promotion reflects WFW’s strong commitment to developing talent from within and is a clear demonstration of the specialisation and excellence that define our lawyers and the WFW approach. Both Javier and Lidia combine exceptional technical strength with a clear commercial mindset and a way of working that is fully aligned with the firm’s values. I am convinced they will continue to play a key role in the firm’s success. My sincere congratulations to both of them.”
