Uría Menéndez-Proença de Carvalho president Daniel Proença de Carvalho to retire

The president of Lisbon-headquartered Uría Menéndez-Proença de Carvalho, Daniel Proença de Carvalho, will retire at the end of this year.

He made the announcement at the firm’s summer party, which took place last week.

Proença de Carvalho (pìctured) became chairman of Uría Menéndez – Proença de Carvalho in March 2010 following the merger of the law firms Proença de Carvalho & Associados and Uría Menéndez.

In addition to practising as a lawyer, Proença de Carvalho, who is aged 77, was the Minister of Social Communication in Mota Pinto’s 4th Constitutional Government (1978-79), chairman of Rádio Televisão Portuguesa (1980-1983), and chairman of the board of directors of the Arpad Szènes-Vieira da Silva Foundation (1993-2007).

Proença de Carvalho’s other roles have included chairman of the board of directors of Cimpor – Cimentos de Portugal and of Global Notícias – Media Group, and a member of the general council of AEM – Associação de Empresas Emitentes de Valores Cotados em Mercado (representing Cimpor – Cimentos de Portugal).

As a lawyer, he worked on litigious and non-litigious matters, both as a lawyer and arbitrator. He has also advised clients on corporate and M&A matters.
