SRS launches new criminal and sanctioning law area: hires

SRS Legal announces the hiring of Paulo de Sá e Cunha and Cátia Muchacho, who will take on roles in the newly established criminal and sanctioning law practice area, enhancing the firm’s specialized service offerings.

Paulo de Sá e Cunha, who joins as consultant, transits from Abreu Advogados, where he was of counsel. Cunha is recognized as one of Portugal’s leading experts in economic criminal law and compliance. With over 30 years of experience, his expertise spans advising on criminal liability of corporate administrators and executives, economic and financial crimes, and implementing compliance programs for large organizations. Paulo de Sá e Cunha is also a key figure in training new generations of legal professionals, actively contributing to the development of legal practice in Portugal. He currently serves as the president of the Superior Council of the Portuguese Bar Association.

Cátia Muchacho, who also transits from Abreu and joins SRS as associate, is an attorney with solid experience in economic criminal Law, compliance, and internal investigations. Her career has been distinguished by handling high-profile cases and demonstrating technical rigor in litigation management. She provides legal counsel to individuals and corporate entities, developing and implementing compliance programs, conducting internal investigations, and addressing legal issues related to regulatory violations.

Together with Mariana Brandão Rodrigues, an associate in SRS Legal’s dispute resolution department, they will lead the new criminal and sanctioning law practice area, which will include economic criminal litigation, regulatory violations, compliance, and internal investigations.
