Simmons & Simmons has expanded to the United States and opens office in Silicon Valley
Simmons & Simmons announced that it will open its first office in the United States, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The office will be led by Emily Jones, a lawyer specialising in data protection, cybersecurity and technology law, who was associated with Osborne Clarke in Silicon Valley from 2002 until December 2021, when she returned to the UK. Jones will join Simmons & Simmons as partner on 1st May, 2022.
Jones’ experience focuses on advising fast-growing technology companies, both in the launch phase and in the development phase of their businesses internationally. At Simmons, Jones will not be practicing American law, but instead will work with the firm’s international network in Europe, the Middle East and Asia to provide legal solutions that help those companies succeed globally.
Commenting on Simmons’ new office and Jones’ arrival, Simmons & Simmons director responsible for TMT (Technology, Media and Telecommunications), Alex Brown, said: “This is a globally significant move for those of us who work on TMT at the firm. Silicon Valley is the epicenter of the global tech industry and home to the world’s largest tech companies, and with Simmons’ experience in the industry, and with a presence in California, the firm is poised to land new jobs and build relationships stronger relationships with our current clients in the TMT sector in the US Together with the firm’s office in Shenzhen, this will give us a presence in the world’s two largest technology hubs.”
Emily Jones commented, “Having spent the last five years building my client base and reputation in Silicon Valley, working closely with companies expanding outside of the US and gaining valuable experience and understanding of the biggest challenges for them, I am in the ideal position to represent Simmons on the West Coast of the US. It is a time of tremendous growth and innovation in the technology market, and Silicon Valley continues to be the center of this activity to the firm and work with Simmons experts throughout the firm’s international TMT network.”
