Sancho Case: Ospina appeals to uphold life sentence and increase compensation
As Iberian Lawyer previously announced in an exclusive interview with Juan Gonzalo Ospina, founding partner of Ospina Abogados and lawyer representing the Arrieta family, the firm wished to appeal the sentence published on August 29, 2024 sentencing Daniel Sancho to life imprisonment for the murder of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta.
Iberian Lawyer has known today that the firm has exercised its right to appeal the sentence against Daniel Sancho. According to sources close to the firm, it has not requested the death penalty for the Spanish chef, but only that the sentence to which he had already been sentenced be maintained: life imprisonment.
On the other hand, Edwin’s defense has asked for an increase in the compensation to the victim’s family, which amounts to 308,928.29 euros. In the previously published sentence, the defendant was sentenced to pay a compensation of 4 million bat, equivalent to 107,000 euros. Gonzalo Ospina’s law firm carried out an expert appraisal of the damages caused, which were quantified at 30 million Bats (793,000 Euros).
