ICAB and ASCOM host V Compliance Congress in Barcelona

On December 12, the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB) and the Spanish Compliance Association (ASCOM) held the fifth edition of the Compliance Congress, bringing together experts to discuss the impact of European regulation on compliance practices.

The event highlighted the evolution of compliance from a penal-focused practice to a strategic tool addressing issues like climate change, artificial intelligence, and anti-money laundering. New European regulations were presented as transformative, signaling a paradigm shift in compliance.

Opening remarks by ICAB Vice Dean Susana Ferrer and ASCOM President José Zamarriego underscored the congress’s role in addressing challenges posed by European regulations. Discussions included the expanding scope of compliance in sustainability, corporate governance, and AI, as well as the significance of due diligence tools like Investiga Pro.

The event concluded with a focus on AI’s ethical and regulatory impacts, reinforcing compliance’s essential role in modern organizations.
