Morais Leitão partners with Lupi & Associados in Macau

Morais Leitão has entered into a new partnership with Macau law firm Lupi & Associados, reinforcing the Portuguese firm’s international presence in the Lusophone world and, in particular, along the China-Africa corridor — a route of growing relevance in the current landscape of international economic relations.

The partnership is designed to provide integrated legal support for cross-border operations involving Portugal, Macau, mainland China, various African jurisdictions, and Timor-Leste. Key sectors of focus include renewable energy and oil & gas in Lusophone countries and sub-Saharan Africa, mining in Angola, Mozambique, and Timor-Leste, infrastructure across the African continent, life sciences — particularly pharmaceutical production — and immigration matters related to high-net-worth individuals.

According to Morais Leitão, Macau plays a central role in this strategy as a platform connecting China with Portuguese-speaking countries, serving as a privileged hub for Chinese investors with interests in Africa, as well as for African groups operating with Chinese partners.

Regional coverage and strategic context

With this new partnership, Morais Leitão — which has a presence in Singapore and Timor-Leste — now achieves integrated coverage of the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The firm operates internationally through the Morais Leitão Legal Circle network, which spans Portugal, Singapore, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Timor-Leste, and now Macau.
