KWM advises Axis on Venture Capital financing round

King & Wood Mallesons has advised Axis Participaciones Empresariales on a series A financing round in Spanish clinical diagnostics start-up DeepULL

Alta Life Science has co-led with French company Kurma Partners a financing round of €3.5 million in the Catalan startup DeepUll. This company is the new project of Jordi Carrera and Rafel Bru, the founders of Stat-Dx, a company that was one of the great successes of Spanish biotechnology after its sale to Qiagen in 2018.

Other participants in the current round have been Sofimac Innovation, through its Pertinence Invest 2 fund and Fond-ICOpyme, managed by Axis Participaciones Empresariales and advised by KWM.

DeepULL, based at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), is developing a new diagnostic system for early stage sepsis. With this capital injection, the biotech start-up covers the financial needs to validate the technology and start its development.

Through the financial facility known as Fond-ICOpyme, FCR, ICO’s Madrid-based Venture Capital investee company Axis offers companies capital and quasi-capital instruments with which to finance their growth needs.
