Juan Passás launches competition law practice
Juan Passás, formerly with Linklaters, has launched an independent competition law practice, advising both companies and other law firms. The Madrid-based boutique covers antitrust investigations and litigation, merger control, foreign investment screening, vertical restraints, advisory and compliance work, and has a transactional and international dimension, including in complex M&A matters.
The practice is built around personal involvement and direct responsibility from Passás, combined with a flexible structure and scalable capacity. This model makes it possible to provide senior-level judgement and experience while tailoring the team and resources to the actual needs of each matter.
“My objective is not to maximise billings on each matter, but to solve the client’s problem as effectively as possible, using the right resources and aligning complexity, resources and budget”, he says.
Working with other firms
Passás also works with Spanish and international law firms that need to add specialist competition capabilities or additional senior expertise, integrating into their teams without requiring them to build and maintain a permanent competition practice of their own. His approach combines legal and economic analysis with a pragmatic, business-oriented perspective.
Juan Passás has more than 22 years of professional experience, primarily at Linklaters and, before that, at MLAB. He holds degrees in Law and Business Administration from ICADE (E-3) and continued his studies at the College of Europe and King’s College London. His experience spans the full lifecycle of competition matters across a range of sectors and business models, and throughout his career he has worked closely with economists and litigators. He has been recognised by Chambers Europe in Competition/European Law for more than 15 consecutive years and continues to be ranked following the launch of his independent practice.
