Herbert Smith Freehills recruits Álvaro Gross as senior associate

Herbert Smith Freehills has recruited Álvaro Gross to head the firm’s real estate funds practice in the Madrid office.

Gross (pictured) joins the firm as a senior associate. It is his second spell at the firm, he spent the last two years working as legal counsel for the British group Intu. He previously worked for Herbert Smith as an associate for the real estate department. Prior to that he worked at Freshfields for seven years.

Gross has advised clients, both national and international, on the acquisition of property portfolios – including shopping centers, office buildings, logistics centers, hotels, student housing and hospitals. He has also advised on the acquisition of non-performing loans, bank refinancing and securitizations.

He also has extensive experience in the retail sector, advising on sale and lease back operations, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and private equity deals.
