José Díez Climent (pictured) joins Grant Thornton as the new head of Public Law in the Valencia office of the professional services law firm, as part of its growth process in Legal services, both in the Mediterranean area and nationally. His extensive experience in the Public Sector consolidates the Legal line in the Valencian market, given the growing demand for these services in this region.

The new director will work in close collaboration with other areas of the firm, such as Public Sector Consulting and Auditing, in order to offer the most comprehensive service possible. In addition, Díez will support clients in strategic sectors related to sustainability and climate change, but also in sectors such as mobility, energy, integrated water cycle, natural resources, waste, public spaces, health, innovation and digital economy, but will also focus on advising the Public Administrations themselves as central agents.

On the other hand, in the short term, his presence will also reinforce the multidisciplinary teams that the firm has created in European Funds, NextGen GT, including services with an important public component and oriented both to the Administration and the private sector, allowing and collaborating in the recovery of our country after the pandemic.

Previously, José Díez has worked for more than 10 years in the public sector, performing different functions such as Legal advisor in the General Directorate of Project Coordination, in the Fundacion Ciudad de las Artes Escénicas and in Teatres de la Generalitat or the direction of the Legal department of the Palau de Les Arts. He has also been director of the Cabinet of the Regional Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport from 2007 to 2012. He also worked as a lawyer in the Public and Regulatory Law department of Andersen Tax & Legal until January 2021.

He holds a Law degree from the Universidad de Valencia and holds a master’s degree in Corporate Legal Consultancy from the Fundación de Estudios Bursátiles y Financieros de Valencia; an Executive MBA at IE Business School and a Higher Programme in Leadership in Public Management from IESE Business School.

For Germán Rodrigo, managing partner of Tax and Legal at the Valencia office, said: “The incorporation of José Díez completes the entire portfolio of services demanded by our clients: Tax (including international and transfer pricing), Legal, Insolvency, Labour and Public Law, making us one of the largest and most specialised offices in our area.”

José Díez added: “An opportunity to develop a legal practice in a sector and speciality of Law that is particularly important in the future economic development of our country, which will require an appropriate collaboration between the public and private sectors in favour of the development of sectorial plans and strategies useful for the Valencian Community, but also relevant for all Grant Thornton’s clients who have a relationship with the Public Administration or the Public Sector in general.”
