Fernando Calancha, managing partner of Hogan Lovells in Spain

Starting January 1, Fernando Calancha, currently the head of the Regulatory and Energy practice in Madrid, will take over leadership of Hogan Lovells’ Spanish office, succeeding José Luis Vázquez. The international law firm is entering a new chapter with Calancha at the helm of its Spanish operations, while Vázquez transitions to join the firm’s EMEA Leadership Team.

Calancha, a State Attorney on leave of absence, brings extensive expertise in regulatory, contentious, and corporate matters in public and administrative law, as well as significant experience in the private sector. Before joining Hogan Lovells, he held leadership roles in regulatory law at PwC.

A law graduate from the Complutense University of Madrid, Calancha is highly regarded in the legal community. He has earned top-tier recognition from leading international legal directories such as Chambers and Partners, where he is ranked Band 1 in Spain for Energy and Natural Resources.

Calancha expressed enthusiasm for his new role, emphasizing Hogan Lovells’ commitment to complex transactions and high-value legal services, while building on the firm’s legacy and attracting top talent. Vázquez highlighted Calancha’s exceptional expertise in Spain’s energy sector and strong leadership skills, expressing confidence in the continued success of the Madrid office under his leadership and their collaboration in advancing its prominence within EMEA.

The Spanish office thus culminates a year of major milestones such as the incorporation of great profiles in the sector such as Iñigo Berrícano (2024), the move to the new offices at Paseo de la Castellana 77, and the celebration of 20 years in the capital.
