Andersen expands to Bilbao with partners in tax, labor & public

Andersen has officially launched operations in Bilbao, marking a strategic expansion under the leadership of José Vicente Morote (pictured centre). The firm has appointed Antonio Matute (pictured left) and Fernando Beltrán (pictured right) as new partners for its Tax and Labor departments, respectively. Additionally, Jon Sebastián will lead the Public and Regulatory department, establishing this new practice in the Bilbao office.

Antonio Matute, a graduate in Law from the University of Deusto, brings over 33 years of experience in corporate taxation, with a focus on both national and international contexts. He is also well-versed in the unique fiscal framework of the Basque Country. Throughout his career, Matute has advised Spanish companies on international expansion and facilitated foreign investments into Spain. His expertise spans tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and restructuring processes, with a strong presence in the energy, automotive, and food industries.

Fernando Beltrán, also a University of Deusto graduate, has over 15 years of experience in labor law, advising companies on employment law, social security, and workplace risk prevention. His practice includes handling complex matters such as corporate restructuring, collective bargaining, and changes to employment conditions. Beltrán joins Andersen’s Bilbao office alongside a team of four legal professionals, including senior associates Pablo Matheu and Carmen Gómez, and associates Sara Lamaza and Eduardo López.

Jon Sebastián, a lawyer in Public and Regulatory law, will spearhead the development of this area in Bilbao. Specializing in public procurement, environmental law, urban planning, infrastructure, public sector employment, and liability matters, Sebastián brings a robust technical foundation and a track record of excellence in these fields.

José Vicente Morote, Managing Partner of Andersen Iberia, commented: “Our expansion into Bilbao starts with three highly strategic areas—Labor, Public, and Tax. The latter, in particular, requires deep knowledge and expertise due to the distinct characteristics of Basque fiscal regulations. The appointments of Antonio and Fernando align perfectly with our strategy of offering top-tier expertise and specialization in business law across all our offices. We are also delighted to have Jon Sebastián, a lawyer with remarkable technical skills and extraordinary potential, on board to lead our Public Law practice in Bilbao.”

The launch of Andersen’s Bilbao office follows the inauguration of its new premises, a 661-square-meter space located on the third floor of 35 Gran Vía Don Diego López de Haro, near the iconic Plaza Federico Moyúa. The office is designed to accommodate up to 50 professionals, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to growth in the Basque region.
