Alantra appoints Xavier Pujol as new secretary-general and global general counsel

Alantra, the global investment banking and asset management specialist, has announced the appointment of Xavier Pujol as secretary-general and global general counsel, replacing Francisco Albella

Pujol (pictured) joins as partner and brings to the role more than 18 years of international legal experience in M&A, Capital Markets, Corporate Governance and Restructurings. Since 2017, he has been the secretary-general and secretary to the Board of Directors of PRISA, the leading business group in the creation and distribution of educational, information and entertainment contents in the Spanish & Portuguese-speaking markets, with a presence in 24 countries. Xavier Pujol began his professional career at Cuatrecasas, was seconded to Herbert Smith and, afterwards was part of the team that launched Latham Watkins in Spain. In 2013 he joined PRISA as deputy general counsel.

Mr Pujol holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Law from ESADE, visiting student at the University of Minnesota and a PLD from IESE.

Commenting on the appointment, Santiago Eguidazu, executive chairman of Alantra, said: “Xavier’s international Corporate experience, judgement and Legal capabilities are a valuable addition to our company and will offer a valuable perspective in this new phase of the company.”

Mr Pujol commented: “I am very excited to be joining Alantra, an independent organisation with an outstanding reputation in the Investment Banking and asset management industries. I look forward with great enthusiasm to working, with the support of Alantra’s legal team, to meet the challenges of our growing internationalisation in an increasingly complex environment.”

Xavier Pujol replaces Francisco Albella, who, for personal reasons, has decided to embark on a new phase in the group, limiting his activities to secretary to the Board of Directors and advisor on specific projects.

“I want to sincerely thank Francisco for the outstanding work he has done over the last 20 years, as head of our legal practice, to institutionalise Alantra in many ways. He has been a pivotal part of the shaping and preservation of our culture. We also appreciate his continuity as secretary to the Group´s Board of Directors and his availability to remain collaborating with the firm,” Santiago Eguidazu said.
