ABG Intellectual Property opens Granada office
ABG Intellectual Property has opened a new office in Granada, marking the firm’s fifth location in Spain and extending its footprint beyond Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia. The move, announced on 15 September 2026, forms part of a broader strategy to position the firm closer to regional innovation ecosystems where research, technology transfer and industrial development take place.
Juan Arias, managing partner at ABG Intellectual Property, said the firm had built a significant client base in Andalusia over recent years, spanning corporations, SMEs and research institutions, adding that the expansion reflects the firm’s view that high-value innovation increasingly develops outside major business centres and that strengthening its regional presence brings it closer to organisations shaping future technological and scientific developments.
Leadership of the new office
The Granada office will be led by Juan Manuel Soto, who joined ABG IP in 2021 and holds a PhD in Physics. He is qualified as a Spanish Patent and Trademark Agent and as a European Patent Attorney, and according to the European Patent Office’s register of representatives, he is among a limited number of European Patent Attorneys practising in Andalusia and the only one based in the province of Granada. Soto said many of the advances developed in Andalusia have the potential to generate economic and social value but do not always progress from research to commercial application, noting that effective intellectual property strategies can help bridge that gap by supporting investment, business creation, employment and long-term industrial development.
