Miranda & Associados has advised MadoquaPower2X on the industrial scale production project of green hydrogen and ammonia in Sines.
The project, with a total investment that could exceed one billion euros, will significantly contribute to the objectives established in the National Strategy for Hydrogen (EN-H2), providing for the installation of 500MW of electrolysis capacity, using energy from renewable sources.
Its relevance in the European context, in particular the REPowerEU plan, specifically aims to increase the goals of green hydrogen production.
To be implemented in the Industrial and Logistics Zone of Sines (ZILS), by a consortium formed by the companies Madoqua Renewables (Portuguese-Dutch) and Power2X (Dutch), and by the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (Danish) fund, the project confirms the attractiveness of Portugal as an investment destination in renewable hydrogen.
Miranda’s multidisciplinary team that advised MadoquaPower2X, was led by partner Nuno Antunes, co-coordinator of the Energy and Natural Resources practice area. It also included partners Maria João Mata and Rita Lufinha Borges, as well as Sara Castelo Branco, Catarina Santinha, Catarina Campelo, Luís Leão Neves and Salomé Freitas (all pictured).
Nuno Antunes considers that: “this is the type of complex project in the energy sector, including in terms of energy transition, in which Miranda has distinguished itself in the various jurisdictions in which it is present,” underlining that the work developed, “was based on a highly qualified and experienced, exceptional in its availability and dedication in responding to the challenges that arose.”
In turn, Maria João Ribeiro Mata, partner from the Commercial and Corporate practice area, added that: “it was a privilege to contribute to the realisation of a pioneering project that promotes long-term environmental goals.”
The launch ceremony will take place on Friday, April 22nd, in Sines, at the ZILS Business Centre, and will be attended by various government officials.
