VdA hosts launch event for Portuguese satellites into space
Vieira de Almeida hosted the launch event for the satellites Prometheus-1 and PoSat-2, a highly significant initiative for the national space sector, last tuesday, 14 december. This milestone marked the deployment of the first constellation of maritime communications satellites developed by LusoSpace, representing a strategic achievement in advancing the New Space Portugal Mobilizing Agenda, led by Geosat. The constellation will map maritime traffic, monitor weather conditions, and address other critical factors affecting ocean navigation.
“Over the years, VdA has been dedicated to the development of Portugal’s space sector with commitment and a sense of mission, including as a member of the New Space consortium. This aligns with its ongoing commitment to innovation, progress, and collaboration”, states the law firm.
The launch event in Portugal, in the headquarters of VdA, was attended by figures such as the secretary of State for Defense, Ana Isabel Xavier; the chief of staff of the Portuguese Air Force, João Cartaxo Alves; the secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira; the secretary of State for the Sea, Lídia Bulcão; the secretary of State for Science, Ana Paiva; and the secretary of State for Fisheries, Cláudia Monteiro de Aguiar.
Aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 was also the Prometheus1 satellite from the University of Minho, which represents an educational mission designed to inspire future generations of space talent. The launch took place at 6:48 PM (Lisbon time) from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, United States.
