Uría Menéndez launches “El Bosque Uría” with Carbon2Nature
Uría Menéndez and Carbon2Nature (C2N), a company within the Iberdrola Group, have announced the creation of El Bosque Uría, a pioneering reforestation project aimed at restoring biodiversity and combating climate change in the Sierra de Francia, Salamanca.
The agreement was formalized at Iberdrola’s Madrid headquarters in the presence of Santiago Martínez Garrido (General Secretary and Board Secretary, Iberdrola), Agustín Delgado (Chief Technology Officer, Iberdrola), Jesús Remón (Chairman, Uría Menéndez), and Salvador Sánchez-Terán (Managing Partner, Uría Menéndez).
“El Bosque Uría” represents a key milestone in Uría Menéndez’s climate strategy, which targets carbon neutrality by 2030. This roadmap blends internal efficiency measures with certified carbon removal projects aligned with the Paris Agreement and the EU Green Deal.
“El Bosque Uría reflects our values and the future we want to build—one rooted in environmental responsibility and intergenerational solidarity,” said Salvador Sánchez-Terán.
“Even from the legal field, we must contribute to environmental innovation through collaborative projects,” added Iberdrola’s Santiago Martínez Garrido.
A Model Forest with Lasting Impact
Located in a high-value ecological zone devastated by one of the worst wildfires in Salamanca’s recent history, El Bosque Uría is already making a difference:
- 134,000 native trees (pine, oak, hawthorn, strawberry trees, and junipers) were planted in 2025.
- The project is now registered with Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition.
- Over 90 hectares of land will be reforested, with Uría Menéndez acquiring the carbon absorption rights for the next decade.
- Expected to capture more than 77,000 tons of CO₂ over the next 50 years.
Beyond carbon offsetting, the initiative contributes to:
- Ecosystem restoration near the Las Batuecas–Sierra de Francia Natural Park, home to species such as the eagle owl, peregrine falcon, and the Iberian rock lizard.
- Water regulation, reducing erosion and improving water retention in the local basin.
- Rural revitalization, through local job creation and promotion of sustainable forest management.
The project is part of a broader decarbonization plan for law firms led by Iberdrola, supporting legal partners in measuring, reducing, and offsetting their environmental impact through nature-based solutions provided by Carbon2Nature.
