Three Spanish firms make Law.com’s Global 200

Three Spanish firms have made it into Law.com’s 2026 Global 200, the annual ranking of the world’s largest law firms by gross revenue. Garrigues is the highest-ranked Spanish firm, taking 125th place worldwide, followed by Cuatrecasas at 143 and Uría Menéndez at 186. Together, the three firms generated around US$1.45bn in gross revenue and counted close to 3,500 lawyers in 2025.

The ranking, published by Law.com and based on financial year 2025 data, puts Garrigues’ gross revenue at US$596.606m, with 1,592 lawyers and revenue per lawyer of US$375,000. The firm rises three places from 128th in the previous Global 200 to 125th this year, making it the first Iberian firm to appear in the table.

Cuatrecasas follows at number 143, with US$505.491m in revenue, 1,238 lawyers and revenue per lawyer of US$408,000. The firm ranked 140th last year and therefore slips three positions in the 2026 edition, although the movement in the league table reflects its position relative to the other firms rather than, on its own, a measure of year-on-year revenue performance.

Completing the Spanish representation is Uría Menéndez, ranked 186th globally. Law.com reports gross revenue of US$347.976m, a lawyer headcount of 657 and revenue per lawyer of US$530,000. Uría moves up two places from 188th last year and, despite being the smallest of the three by overall revenue and lawyer headcount, records the highest revenue per lawyer among the Spanish firms included in the ranking.

The global ranking

Spain is also home to a significant share of the firms included in Law.com’s Global 200. At the very top of the table, six of the world’s ten highest-grossing law firms now have offices in the country.

They include Latham & Watkins, second worldwide with US$8.3bn in revenue and 3,724 lawyers; DLA Piper, third with US$4.58bn and 4,737 lawyers; and Gibson Dunn, which has climbed two places to fourth with US$4.21bn in revenue and 2,063 lawyers. A&O Shearman ranks eighth with US$3.69bn, Baker McKenzie ninth with US$3.64bn and White & Case tenth with US$3.59bn. Gibson Dunn is also one of the most significant changes from last year’s picture. The US firm entered Spain in 2026, opening its Madrid office under Armando Albarrán, meaning that the Spanish market now hosts another member of the global top five.

Further down the ranking, firms with offices in Spain include Clifford Chance (12), Hogan Lovells (14), Linklaters (16), Freshfields (18), Jones Day (19), Dentons (22), CMS (28), Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer (29), Eversheds Sutherland (42), Ashurst (50), Squire Patton Boggs (54), Clyde & Co (71), Pinsent Masons (80), Simmons & Simmons (83), Addleshaw Goddard (91), Bird & Bird (100), Osborne Clarke (113), DWF (117), Kennedys (124), Fieldfisher (136), Stephenson Harwood (168) and Watson Farley & Williams (188). Stephenson Harwood is another newcomer to the Spanish market, having opened in Madrid in 2026 with an eight-partner team.

The trends

Law.com’s broader analysis points to an increasingly concentrated market in which scale is becoming a competitive advantage not only in terms of revenue and profitability, but also in the ability to invest in talent, technology and geographic expansion. The top 50 firms now generate 59% of all Global 200 revenue, while the top ten account for more than 20%.

The publication also notes that the largest firms are increasingly focused not on being present in every jurisdiction, but on being present in the “right” markets, as investment becomes more selective and firms seek scale through both combinations and targeted geographic expansion.

Overall revenue across the Global 200 rose 11.9% over the year, while revenue per lawyer increased 8.7%. Growth was stronger among the Global 100, whose revenue increased by 12.7%, compared with 8.8% for firms ranked from 101 to 200.
