The Malaga Bar Association says ‘no’ to violence against women

Every year on the 25th of november the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is commemorated, promoted by the United Nations with the aim of raising awareness among citizens to be activists, defend women’s rights and fight for a world free of gender violence.

The Malaga Bar Association has said ‘no’ to violence against women and has joined the commemoration in order to help put an end to this type of violence. As of today, in Spain, there have been 38 women murdered in cases of gender violence. Nine of these have occurred in the province of Malaga.

The events for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will take place today between 12:00 and 14:00 at the college headquarters. Beginning with a talk on the new regulation of crimes against sexual freedom after the reform operated by the LO 10/2022, given by Juan José Navas Blánquez, Magistrate-Judge of the Court of Instruction No. 4 of Torremolinos.

After a minute’s silence for all victims of gender violence, a poem will be read by the Vice-Dean, Flor Carrasco and the Member of Parliament, Regina Apalategui, followed by a performance by José Manuel Padilla Córdoba on the piano of several poems.

The Malaga Bar Association believes that violence against women continues to be an obstacle to achieving equality and respect for women and girls and with these events they hope to raise awareness in society of the importance of their support for the fight for women’s rights in their daily lives.
