The international community mourns the passing of Ramon Mullerat OBE

Renowned lawyer and arbitrator Ramon Mullerat OBE has passed away, on the morning of May 31st, 2013 at his office at law firm Iuris Valls, Barcelona

Ramon Mullerat OBE was considered as a reference in the world of arbitration, both domestically and internationally. He was also one of the first members of Iberian Lawyer’s Editorial Board.

Mullerat was a key figure internationally in promoting the use of alternative dispute resolution, and at home in Barcelona he was President of the Association for the Promotion of Arbitration. Mullerat held many senior roles at the International Bar Association (IBA) including Co-Chair of the Human Rights Institute (HRI), and was also former President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of the European Union (CCBE).

Mullerat was also a strong advocate of corporate social responsibility (CSR), author of many leading books on the subject and a pioneer in this relatively new area in Spain.

Leading figures from the legal and arbitral communities attended his funeral on Sunday to pay their respects, and tributes have been flooding in from around the world.
