Sustainability Summit: 2025

Iberian Lawyer held the Sustainability Summit Spain 2025 at the Rosewood Villa Magna Hotel in Madrid on Thursday, February 20, bringing together leaders from the legal, financial and business sectors to discuss sustainability. With the support of ECLA and the Ilustre Colegio de la Abogacía, and Jones Day as a partner, the event is structured around three main pillars: environment, finance and governance (EFG: Environment, Finance, Governance).

Sustainability Summit

The event will begin with a speech by Aldo Scaringella, CEO of LC Publishing Group, who will highlight the importance of sustainability.

The first panel, “Sustainable Visions: Business strategies for environmental leadership”, will bring together Stéphan Barthe, director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at Plenitude Renovables España; Javier Cepeda, legal director of Iberdrola Energía Internacional; María de los Reyes Escrig Teigeiro, director of Legal and member of the Board of Directors of Aena Desarrollo Internacional; Arancha García Gutiérrez, director of Compliance, Risks and Sustainability at Idealista; Alicia Juristo, director of Legal Counsel at Enagás Renovable and Paloma Valor, of counsel at Jones Day, moderated by Ilaria Iaquinta, editor-in-chief of Iberian Lawyer. The speakers will discuss tools and regulations to advance environmental sustainability, highlighting the impact of regulation and the need for innovative business strategies.

Second Session

After a short coffee break, the second session, “Investing in Tomorrow: Unlocking the Potential of Green Finance”, will explore the opportunities and challenges of sustainable finance. With the participation of Alexandra Borisova, global head of Green Finance for Retail & Commercial Bank at Banco Santander; Berta Egaña, head of Sustainable Finance Structured at CaixaBank – CIB; Alejo Víctor García López, global head of Sustainable Finance & ESG Business at Bankinter; Jesús Garrido, managing director and head of DCM at ING Spain & Portugal and Ross Robinson, director of Sustainable Finance Corporate and Investment Banking at Banco Sabadell, under the moderation of Julia Gil, journalist at FinancecommunityES and Iberian Lawyer. The debate highlighted the growing importance of ESG criteria in investment and the key role of financial institutions in the transition to a sustainable economy.

Close Session

To close the day, the round table “Sustainable leadership: governance as a competitive advantage” will address the impact of sustainability on business decision making. Participants will include Belén Domínguez Domech, deputy general counsel at Urbaser; Julia A. García Navarro, director of Legal Counsel, Risks and Insurance and secretary of the Board of Directors at Transfesa Logistic; Joaquim Hortalà i Vallvé, general secretary and secretary of the Board at Renfe; Blanca Puyol, partner at Jones Day and Ginés J. Valera Gómez, legal counsel deputy director at Solarig, with the moderation of Mercedes Galán, journalist at Iberian Lawyer. The discussion will focus on the importance of sustainability in corporate strategy and how regulation can drive real change in corporate governance.

The day will conclude with a networking lunch, giving attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas and establish strategic connections to further advance sustainability in their organizations.
