Spanish lawyer Salomé Cisnal de Ugarte appointed new K&S Brussels partner

US law firm King & Spalding has hired Spanish Competition Law expert Salomé Cisnal de Ugarte, from Hogan Lovells, to launch Competition practice in Brussels

Between 2018-2020, Cisnal de Ugarte (pictured) was the managing partner of Hogan Lovells Brussels office. She most recently worked as a Hogan Lovells Antitrust and Competition practice partner. She has also worked for other US law firms in Brussels, such as Crowell & Moring, Mayer Brown, and UK Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. She now joins Brussels King & Spalding office as a partner.

Salomé focuses on providing strategic and Legal advice to companies and investors in complex Competition matters, with particular emphasis on merger control (M&A, Joint Ventures and Private Equity transactions) and global investigations (cartels, vertical agreements, sector inquiries). She also advises on State aid and assists in court or arbitration proceedings. Her experience includes work for European, US and Asian clients and covers a number of sectors, such as hi-tech, energy, life sciences, financial services, and automotive. She focuses on the Competition issues relating to the digital and sustainable economy. Salomé is admitted to practice in Belgium and Spain, and she is recognised by the main international directories as a leader in Competition Law.

She was also, for 22 years, an EU Competition Law associate professor at IE Law School. She speaks five languages and also holds a Master´s degree from Harvard Law School, a PhD in Law from the European University Institute in Florence and was a Fulbright scholar.
