Spanish Government awards Luis de Carlos Grand Cross of Order of Civil Merit

The Council of Ministers in Spain has approved the Royal Decree granting Luis de Carlos Bertrán, the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, in recognition of his almost 40-year professional career at Uría Menéndez.

Luis de Carlos Bertrán is the chairman of Uría Menéndez, after having served between 2005 and 2018 as managing partner. He joined the firm in 1983 and was named a partner in 1991. He managed the Barcelona office between 1993 and 1995, and was responsible for the professional practice of the firm until his appointment as managing partner. He has 38 years of experience advising national and foreign companies on securities market law and also regularly advises on corporate law and corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and banking law.

Luis de Carlos has always shown his commitment to civil society. Among others, he has held various positions in the following entities: President of the ProCNIC Foundation (National Center for Cardiovascular Research), Vice President of the Fundación de Amigos del Museo del Prado, Vice President of the Fundación Iberoamericana Empresarial, Secretary General of the Fundación de Estudios Financiers or secretary of the Cotec Foundation for Technological Innovation. In addition, Luis de Carlos has been a professor of Financial System Law at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (‘ICADE’) from 1988 to 2013.
