Perkins Coie and Ashurst merge to form Ashurst Perkins Coie

Perkins Coie and Ashurst have approved the proposed merger between the two firms. Once completed, Ashurst Perkins Coie will become a fully integrated global law firm with combined revenues of approximately US$2.8 billion. The firm will have around 3,000 lawyers across more than 50 offices worldwide. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to complete in the third quarter of 2026.

Ashurst Perkins Coie will focus on the technology, energy, infrastructure and financial services sectors, as well as complex transactions and litigation. “The approval by all the partner involved is the result of an extensive internal consultation process, reflects strong support for the integration of two firms with clearly complementary geographic reach, sector specialisms and strengths across their practice areas”, they state.

“The approval of our combination reflects a shared conviction: the creation of Ashurst Perkins Coie will result in a truly differentiated global legal platform, with the scale, sector specialisation and technological leadership needed to respond to our clients’ growing and complex cross-border needs”, says Bill Malley, global managing partner of Perkins Coie.

Paul Jenkins, global CEO of Ashurst, adds: “This vote confirms the extraordinary alignment between both firms and our shared ambition for the future. The intensive work alongside our partners, professionals and clients since the announcement of the deal has shown that we are a natural fit. Our complementary expertise, combined with a shared commitment to innovation, will enable us to offer clients greater global reach and capability, while creating a highly attractive platform for top legal talent.”

“Our clients operate in increasingly complex environments and require advisers capable of supporting them with vision and expertise. Ashurst and Perkins Coie share a deeply collaborative culture and a strong commitment to excellence. This integration will create a global firm capable of delivering truly integrated solutions, with no friction between jurisdictions or practice areas, aligned with our clients’ international ambitions”, says Karen Davies, global chair of Ashurst.

Acording to Mark Birnbaum, chair of Perkins Coie’s Executive Committee, “the support of our partners highlights their commitment to building a forward-looking firm that enhances our ability to anticipate opportunities and deliver top-tier legal advice in a dynamic global environment. It also reflects shared confidence in the potential of this union and in the strength of the resulting platform to drive sustained growth and exceptional performance.”
