Ontier launches Ontier Disputes global unit
Ontier has launched Ontier Disputes, a global business unit dedicated to handling complex international disputes across multiple jurisdictions, as part of the firm’s broader international growth and specialisation strategy.
Rather than a conventional international practice group, Ontier Disputes has been structured as a specialised global platform designed to manage highly complex legal and strategic disputes involving parallel proceedings, regulatory risk, reputational exposure, asset protection, cross-border enforcement and significant business impact. The unit combines the focused approach of an international disputes boutique with Ontier’s multidisciplinary capabilities, global network and industry expertise, allowing the firm to assemble tailor-made international teams based on the specific characteristics of each matter, drawing on professionals from different jurisdictions, practice areas and industries.
The creation of the unit responds to a growing trend in the international business environment: disputes that require not only technical legal expertise, but also procedural strategy, international coordination, commercial understanding and a deep grasp of the sector-specific, economic, cultural and reputational context in which companies operate.
Leadership and strategic rationale
Mercedes Romero, partner leading Ontier Disputes, comments that “international disputes are becoming increasingly complex and strategic. Companies are simultaneously facing proceedings across multiple jurisdictions, regulatory issues, reputational risks and decisions that may directly impact their business and assets.”
She further highlights that “in this context, technical excellence is essential, but it is no longer sufficient. Clients need teams capable of defining strong procedural strategies, understanding the broader implications surrounding a dispute and making decisions aligned with their business and strategic interests. Ontier Disputes has been created precisely to provide that specialised international approach.”
Javier Muñoz, international director at Ontier, states that “Ontier Disputes is a key part of Ontier’s international strategy and reflects our commitment to increasingly integrated and specialised global structures. This unit enables us to strengthen coordination across offices and consolidate an internationally aligned way of working, combining local knowledge, global perspective and cross-border reach.”
