Ontier Chile adds Matías Kunstmann as tax head
Ontier has added Matías Kunstmann as the partner in charge of the Tax Area at its Chile office. The move strengthens the firm’s tax advisory capabilities in the country and consolidates a practice aimed at supporting both local and international clients with their operations, investments and tax needs in the Chilean market, states the law firm. He joins from Kunstmann Spiess Abogados.
Professional background
Kunstmann brings more than 25 years of experience in tax matters, with much of his career focused on tax consulting for companies and individuals, tax compliance, and representation of taxpayers before Chile’s Internal Revenue Service (SII), with particular attention to corporate groups, family businesses and high-net-worth individuals. Before joining Ontier, Kunstmann was a founding partner of SCK Consultores / Kunstmann Abogados and previously worked at KPMG Chile, EY and Arthur Andersen – Langton Clarke. He holds a law degree from Universidad de Chile and an LLM with a tax mention from the University of Toronto. In his advisory work with companies and boards, he has also handled matters related to economic crime, tax policy and compliance standards.
The development of the Tax Area in Chile is closely linked to the growth of other practices where the tax dimension plays an increasingly relevant role, including Corporate, Financial and M&A. The Tax Area will work in coordination with the rest of Ontier Chile’s practices and with the firm’s various offices, supporting clients both in structuring their operations and in managing their tax needs.
Javier Muñoz, international director of Ontier, said the addition of Kunstmann is part of the firm’s strategy to reinforce its capabilities in key markets with professionals who combine deep local knowledge, experience and an international outlook. He noted that Chile holds a relevant position within the firm’s network and that having a solid tax practice allows Ontier to provide a more complete response to local and international clients operating in, from and towards Chile, adding that this combination of local specialization and coordination between offices is an essential part of the firm’s model.
Javier Edwards, managing partner of Ontier Chile, said the integration of a professional like Kunstmann into the team generates synergies with the firm’s other areas at both local and international level, allowing it to provide legal advisory services with strength and consistency.
