Navantia appoints Tax & Legal heads

Spanish state-owned naval construction company Navantia has appointed Juan Blanco Tax director and Alejandro Rubio head of Legal

Navantia, the Spanish state-owned company reference in the design and construction of high technology military and civilian vessels, has reinforced its Tax & Legal departments with the appointment of two heads.

Juan Blanco Gutiérrez (pictured left) joins Navantia as head of Tax from Alier Abogados, where he was a senior Tax lawyer specialising in Tax advice to companies and large estates in all types of Tax and Litigation proceedings. He is also an expert in Tax Compliance. He has extensive experience in Administrative, Economic-Administrative and Contentious-Administrative proceedings, management, verification, inspection, collection and sanctioning procedures, taxation of real estate transactions (VAT, ITP), self-assessment of direct and indirect taxes, Tax planning of family and business assets and preparation of reports and binding consultations to the Directorate General for Taxation. He currently teaches Company Tax Law at Universidad de Nebrija and has previously taught Tax Compliance at Thomson Reuters. He is a Law graduate from Universidad de Vigo. At Navantia, he is responsible for Navantia’s Tax Department, within the Financial department, providing Tax advice to all the organisational areas and management of Navantia’s business units and head offices, as well as in negotiations with customers and suppliers in all the company’s commercial offers and supply contracts.

Alejandro Rubio González (pictured right) is the new head of Legal of Navantia. Alejandro Rubio holds a double degree in Law and Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) and a PhD in Law (with special distinction award) from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is also a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence. He joined the Spanish Legal Service as a State Attorney in 2005 and was appointed head of the Legal Service in Ciudad Real. In 2008 he moved to the Legal Service before the National High Court (Audiencia Nacional), where his practice covered areas such as Taxation, national defence, public utilities and regulation, energy, telecommunications and Data Protection. From 2011 to 2016 he served at the Legal Service before the European Court of Justice, where he represented the Kingdom of Spain before the European Court of Justice, the General Court and the EFTA Court. In 2013 he was promoted to deputy director of that Legal Service. In November 2016 he was appointed Technical General Secretary of the Ministry of Economy. In July 2018 he resumed his job as deputy director of the Legal Service before the European Court of Justice. In October 2019, he moved to the Legal Service before the National High Court (Audiencia Nacional), where he practised before the Administrative Chamber. Since February 2021 he is director of Legal Affairs of Navantia.
