Morais Leitão adopts Legau’s AI-powered legal tool

Morais Leitão has adopted Legau’s AI-powered legal drafting tool, following a successful pilot conducted across multiple practice areas. The solution is now being implemented by an initial group of lawyers, as part of the firm’s strategy to integrate practical, practical, results-driven innovation into everyday legal work.

Legau combines AI-powered legal drafting with structured access to internal and external legal knowledge, integrating into existing legal workflows. The pilot took place at the end of 2025 and involved lawyers from 10 departments, including litigation, corporate, real estate, public law, and tax. During this period, lawyers actively used Legau’s platform to support document drafting, planning, and review workflows, as well as internal and external research and knowledge management.

The results demonstrated a high level of adoption by the teams, states Morais Leitão. The vast majority of participating lawyers expressed interest in continuing to use the platform. Among users who quantified the impact of the tool, there was an average reduction of 22% in the time spent on certain tasks, freeing up capacity for higher value-added legal work and client follow-up.

The cross-departmental adoption of the platform also demonstrated its applicability in multiple legal specialities, reinforcing Legau’s potential as a tool to support legal work at the firm, states Morais Leitão.

“Being selected by Morais Leitão after such a rigorous pilot is a strong signal for Legau and for the wider legal market,” said Luís Alves Dias, CEO of Legau. “They approached this evaluation with the same level of rigor they apply to their legal work, and the fact that they are moving forward based on real usage and real impact speaks volumes. We’re proud to support their lawyers as they continue to modernize how legal knowledge is accessed and applied.”

From Morais Leitão’s perspective, the decision reflects a clear focus on innovation grounded in measurable results. “One of the things I value most is the sheer diversity of challenges we tackle every day. Through a pilot spanning multiple practice areas at Morais Leitão, we identified a clear set of use cases where Legau meaningfully elevates our lawyers’ performance. One of the advantages of working with a local company is their ability to leverage the specificities of our jurisdiction, while also helping us contribute to the growth of the Portuguese Legaltech ecosystem”, said Carlos Coelho, partner and director of Innovation and Knowledge at Morais Leitão.
