MFA Legal & Tech launches indirect tax practice
MFA Legal & Tech has created a dedicated indirect tax practice in Lisbon with the arrival of Rita Simão Luís as counsel. The new area will focus on VAT, Customs Law and Special Consumption Taxes and will be co-led by Simão Luís alongside Bárbara Miragaia.
The move is intended to reinforce the firm’s ability to handle complex tax matters and cross-border transactions, with particular attention to Portugal and Lusophone Africa.
Professional background
Simão Luís has built her career in tax advisory and tax litigation, concentrating on indirect taxation, including VAT, excise duties and customs law in Portugal and Lusophone Africa. She has advised national and international groups in the financial, real estate, pharmaceutical, telecommunications and energy sectors on M&A transactions and infrastructure projects.
Before joining MFA Legal & Tech, she worked at law firms Vieira de Almeida and Allen & Overy, and served as Deputy and acting Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs. She holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Universidade Católica Portuguesa and contributes regularly to IBFD.
