Martínez-Echevarría creates insurance law unit led by Eva Fuerte
Martínez-Echevarría has established a dedicated Insurance Law Department, spinning off a practice area that had previously been part of its Litigation Department. The new unit will be led by Eva Fuerte, a lawyer with more than twenty years of experience advising insurance and reinsurance companies, who joins from Kennedys.
The move follows growth in the firm’s insurance-related work and reflects “a broader push to build specialized practices capable of serving insurers, reinsurers, large corporates and other market participants operating in an increasingly regulated sector”, states Martínez-Echevarría. With the change, the department that previously sat within the litigation practice now operates independently, with its own dedicated structure.
New hire’s background
Eva Fuerte joins the firm’s Madrid office to take charge of the new department. Throughout her career she has advised, both in and out of court, insurers and reinsurers operating in Spain and internationally, including Zurich and Generali, handling complex proceedings and some of the market’s most significant claims.
She began her career at Cuatrecasas, where she specialized in civil liability matters. Since 2007 she has worked at firms including DAC Beachcroft, Clyde & Co, Muñoz Arribas Abogados and Kennedys, representing insurance companies before various jurisdictions. She later moved to Zurich, where she spent three years in the Litigation Department, advising the claims and underwriting teams on coverage, risk management, reinsurance, relations with intermediaries and customer service, while also sitting on the company’s Serious Risk Committees and advising its life insurance division.
Alongside her practice, Eva Fuerte has published in the Anuario Contencioso of Wolters Kluwer, INESE, BDS and the Revista de Abogados del Estado, and has taught on the bar access masters programs run by ISDE and the Madrid Bar Association.
