King & Wood Mallesons acts for Swanlaab on structuring of new fund

King & Wood Mallesons advised Spanish venture capital firm Swanlaab Venture Factory on the structuring and first close of its inaugural fund, Swanlaab Giza Invierte Venture Fund I.

The fund received capital commitments from, among others, the public institution CDTI (Centre for Industrial Technological Development), which provided €12 million from its investment programme Invierte. CDTI aims to support the development and innovation of Spanish companies.

Swanlaab Giza Invierte Venture Fund I aims to make investments of €1 million to €3 million in Spanish IT startups.

Established in 2014, Swanlaab Venture Factory is a venture capital fund with professional backup provided by the Israeli venture capital group Giza Venture Capital (Giza VC).

The King & Wood Mallesons team was led by Madrid-based partner Isabel Rodríguez, and included senior associate Ildefonso Alier and associate María de Orueta.

Rodríguez said: “Over the last year we have seen interest increasing in the Spanish venture capital sector. This interest is not only coming from domestic Spanish investors, but also from international investors.”
