Juan Verdugo, new partner at DLA Piper

DLA Piper has appointed Juan Verdugo, from Garrigues, as a new partner in the finance department, led by César Herrero, to head the restructuring practice.

Jesús Zapata, managing partner of DLA Piper Spain, said: “We are delighted to welcome Juan Verdugo, a reference in restructuring and highly complex crises, to our team. His extensive experience and innovative approach will be a great asset for our clients and will strengthen our ability to deliver world-class restructuring solutions”.

Juan Verdugo

Verdugo has led pioneering cases that have marked the financial and corporate sector. With an established track record in the purchase and valuation of non-performing loan (NPL) portfolios, corporate refinancings and syndicated debt acquisitions, he advises leading banks, investment funds, private equity firms and servicers on a daily basis in their investment and divestment processes, including cross-border insolvencies. His track record in directors’ liability defense and his knowledge of D&O coverage policies have made him a benchmark in corporate risk management and an expert in the “gray zone” of corporate insolvency.

In addition, his commitment to excellence is reflected in his participation as a World Bank expert and as a founding member of TMA Spain. He is also co-author of the first English-language guide to distressed transactions in Spain, published by Thomson-Reuters in 2020.

“It is an honor to join DLA Piper and be part of a global team to accompany companies and creditors in their objectives, providing my expertise and offering strategic solutions at key moments,” states Verdugo. “In difficult situations, accompaniment, choice of message and dedication are key to make companies viable or increase the recovery of investment or credit,” he also adds.
