Juan Calvente reinforces Labour practice of Simmons & Simmons

Simmons & Simmons, after closing its last financial year with significant growth, has hired Juan Calvente, who joins the labour area of this international firm. This was previously reported as rumour by Iberian Lawyer and has now been officially confirmed by the firm.

After approving the Labour Inspectorate exam as the first in his promotion, Calvente served as Head of the Toledo Labour and Social Security Inspectorate and as Technical Advisor in the General Directorate of Labor and Social Security. Finally, he made the leap to the private sector in 1996 to lead the labour area of Clifford Chance in Spain, where he has developed his professional career becoming a reference professional in labour law, highlighting his work in the financial, technological or pharmaceutical, which fits perfectly with the strategy of Simmons & Simmons Spain.

In this office he will work as part of the team of Eduardo Peñacoba, partner responsible for the labor practice, as well as Country Manager of the firm in Spain since last May. Peñacoba stands out from this incorporation that responds to the strategy of the firm in Spain, since it reinforces a team in steady growth, and in order to convert over time the labor practice of Simmons Spain into the equivalent of the British team, a reference in the City of London. Likewise, Peñacoba emphasises that “nothing can make me more excited than starting the hirings of the year with one of a labour colleague of the prestige of Juan Calvente.”

For his part, Juan Calvente declared that “after so many years in a magnificent firm, in which I have learned so much, I am delighted with this fantastic opportunity to continue my professional career in a team as powerful as the one led by Eduardo Peñacoba. It is a very exciting challenge to become part of a firm like Simmons & Simmons, where labor practice is so relevant, and to contribute all my experience to continue growing.”
