ICAM: 1,000 lawyers back fee reform campaign
Days after launching its “Transparency without Sanctions” campaign, the Illustrious Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) has already surpassed 1,000 signatures supporting its letter addressed to the Ministries of Justice and Consumer Affairs. The letter requests that the Council of State issue a legal opinion to clarify the legal framework surrounding the indicative fee guidelines for legal professionals.
“This broad support reflects the legal profession’s commitment to transparency, legal certainty, and full alignment with the mandate of the new Organic Law on the Right to Legal Defence (Ley Orgánica del Derecho de Defensa – LODD)”, states ICAM. The initiative, driven by ICAM’s Governing Board, aims to provide legal certainty for Bar Associations, which are legally required to publish objective fee guidelines—mitigating the current uncertainty caused by the risk of sanctions from the CNMC (Spain’s National Commission for Markets and Competition).
“In just a few days, over a thousand colleagues have raised their voices in favour of legal certainty, transparency, and the right to defence. It’s a clear show of support for which I’m deeply grateful. But we cannot stop here. The more signatures we gather, the stronger our request will be. This is a decisive moment—not just to defend the institutional role of the Bar Associations, but to uphold citizens’ right to know the cost of litigation before embarking on it”, said ICAM dean Eugenio Ribón.
The Bar Association has publicly thanked those who have already signed and is calling on members to keep spreading the campaign through social media, law firms, and professional networks. The petition platform remains open to both individual members and legal entities, forming part of a broader strategy that combines institutional advocacy, media outreach, and sector mobilisation. ICAM reminds that the campaign will continue in the coming days under the hashtag #HonorariosTransparentes.
