Hogan Lovells closes 2024 with 58.9M euros in turnover in Spain

Hogan Lovells has maintained its growth trajectory in Spain, closing 2024 with a revenue of €58.9 million. Globally, the firm surpassed $2.9 billion in revenue last year (approximately €2.96 billion). The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region has solidified its position as a key pillar for the firm, representing 46% of total revenue, while the Americas accounted for 49%, and Asia Pacific and the Middle East contributed 5%.

The Madrid office, led by Fernando Calancha (pictured) since January 1, now has 24 partners and more than 100 lawyers. The corporate and finance practice remains the largest contributor to the firm’s revenue in Spain, accounting for 45.7% of the total. It is followed by the regulatory and intellectual property, media, and technology (IPMT) practices, which together represent 34.8%. Meanwhile, litigation, arbitration, and labor law account for 19.4% of national revenue.

Key Leadership Changes and Strategic Growth

In addition to Calancha’s appointment, Hogan Lovells made several strategic moves last year, including:

  • Silvia Martínez’s promotion to partner in the international arbitration practice.
  • Javier Grimau’s appointment as counsel in the tax practice.
  • Former Madrid managing partner José Luis Vázquez’s transition to the EMEA leadership team, led by partner José María Balañá.

The firm has also played a role in major transactions at the start of 2024, including advising Abu Dhabi’s Multiply Group on the acquisition of a majority stake in Tendam, the owner of brands like Cortefiel and Springfield, with over 1,800 points of sale across nearly 20 countries. This acquisition marks Multiply Group’s first major investment in Europe and the launch of its new fashion investment vertical, aimed at driving future growth in the sector.

Spain as a Strategic Market

Hogan Lovells’ Global CEO, Miguel Zaldivar, has reaffirmed Spain as a key market in the firm’s FRIS strategy (France, Italy, Spain) for the coming years.
“We are proud to have achieved consistent growth year after year. The increasing demand from our clients, combined with our investments in top-tier talent, sector-specific strategies, and AI, continue to position us for further strategic growth in 2025,” Zaldivar stated.

Over the past two years, Hogan Lovells has strengthened its global team by promoting 60 lawyers to partners—28 in 2024 and another 28 in 2025.
