Garrigues completes integration with Sánchez Devanny
Garrigues has finalized the integration of Sánchez Devanny after securing approval at its partners’ meeting and obtaining the necessary regulatory authorizations. This move, which Iberian Lawyer first reported in July last year, marks a significant expansion for the Spanish firm in Latin America.
Fernando Vives, Executive Chairman of Garrigues, emphasized the strategic importance of this move: “Sánchez Devanny is a benchmark law firm in Mexico. Its integration demonstrates Garrigues’ commitment to the country and strengthens our position as a leading firm in Ibero-America. It is an honor to welcome all Sánchez Devanny professionals to our team.”
Integration completed
As a result of the merger, Garrigues now has a team of approximately 140 professionals in Mexico. The newly integrated Garrigues Mexico will be co-led by Jaime Iglesias and Rafael Villamar, who previously served as managing partners of Garrigues Mexico and Sánchez Devanny, respectively, under the coordination of Javier Ybáñez, partner responsible for the Latin America group.
With this transaction, Garrigues, the largest law firm in the European Union by revenue, strengthens its regional presence, adding to its existing offices in Colombia, Chile, and Peru. The firm first entered the Mexican market in 2014, but this integration makes Mexico its second-largest market after Spain.
The new Garrigues Mexico stands out for its strong local presence, with established offices in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Querétaro, along with extensive experience advising both Mexican clients and foreign investors. The firm’s one-stop-shop model will allow it to coordinate cross-border projects seamlessly, leveraging its international network across 12 countries on four continents.
