Cuatrecasas Portugal advises Globo on expansion of streaming services

Cuatrecasas Portugal has advised Globo on expanding streaming services and making the Globoplay application available in Portugal

pjimage 2021 10 14T153228.812Cuatrecasas Portugal has advised Globo, the largest media group in Brazil, on the expansion of the distribution of audiovisual content through the Internet (streaming) to Portugal, as well as on the availability of the Globoplay application, which should remain available in the country from 14th October.

Cuatrecasas is also advising the company to expand Globoplay to Germany, Canada, Spain, France, Italy, United Kingdom and Switzerland. The advice provided mainly covers Regulatory Law in the Audiovisual sector, protection of personal data and privacy, the negotiation of contractual issues related to Intellectual Property rights, electronic contracting, consumption and Tax Law.

Globoplay will make available soap operas, original and exclusive series, movies, football, children’s programming, cooking shows, travel, decoration, among others, and the main news from Brazil, through seven channels broadcast live.

The operation involved a multidisciplinary team from Cuatrecasas coordinated by the co-coordinating partner of the Intellectual Property, Technology, Media and Telecommunications area, Sónia Queiróz Vaz (pictured left), the partner from the Tax area, Gonçalo Bastos Lopes (pictured top right) and the partner from the area of Litigation and Arbitration Frederico Bettencourt Ferreira (pictured bottom right). Also involved was the coordinating partner of the European and Competition Law area, Pedro Marques Bom, and the associates Ana Costa Teixeira and Teresa Gonçalves from the IP-TMT areas, as well as Luís Bordalo e Sá from the European and Competition Law area.
