CIIAM strengthens Latin American presence
The Centro Internacional e Iberoamericano de Arbitraje de Madrid (CIIAM) has signed an alliance with the Conciliation, Arbitration and Amicable Composition Centre of the Medellín Chamber of Commerce for Antioquia (CCMA) to strengthen its presence in Latin America.
Under the agreement, CCMA will refer its international arbitration cases to CIIAM while continuing to administer domestic proceedings. International disputes arising from contracts signed after 1 January 2027 will be administered by CIIAM, while parties to disputes linked to earlier contracts will be able to choose whether to submit their cases to the Madrid-based institution.
The agreement was signed by Lina Vélez de Nicholls, Executive President of CCMA, and Adolfo Díaz-Ambrona, President of the Madrid Association for International Arbitration, and formalised in Medellín by representatives of both institutions, including José María Alonso, President of CIIAM.
As part of the partnership, CCMA will become an operational point for CIIAM in Colombia and will have representation within CIIAM’s governing body.
