Cases & Lacambra appoints Manuel Álvarez as director of global regulatory compliance

Cases & Lacambra has appointed Manuel Álvarez, from Uría Menéndez, as the new director of global compliance of the firm. The new director will enjoy full operational independence, reporting to the Board of Directors.

‘Although we are a compact firm, our client typology is very broad and our matters are increasingly complex. We have the full range of institutional clients, including asset managers, investment funds and private family offices. This range together with the fact that we operate in three jurisdictions and interact with more than 40 others means that we have to be very organised and committed to transparency, robustness of our processes and our corporate governance structure,’ said Miguel Cases, executive chairman of the firm. ‘The addition of Manuel to Cases & Lacambra strengthens our ability to manage regulatory challenges and ensure compliance in an increasingly complex environment,’ added Ernesto Lacambra, managing director.

With a track record of more than 20 years of industry experience and a deep understanding of international regulatory frameworks, Álvarez will bring his vision to ensure comprehensive compliance across all jurisdictions in which the firm operates, as well as aligning processes with the needs of institutional clients. Prior to joining Cases & Lacambra, Manuel spent two decades at Uría Menéndez.

A graduate in Law from Pompeu Fabra University, where he also studied for a PhD in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences, Manuel’s professional career has focused on active and preventive corporate criminal defence. During his professional career, Manuel has advised on the design, implementation and updating of ethics and compliance programmes, conducting internal investigations and representing companies and executives in complex criminal proceedings.

In addition, Álvarez has combined his professional activity with teaching, having been a collaborating lecturer in criminal law, economic criminal law and criminal litigation at the UOC, ISDE, ESADE, the University of Barcelona and the Barcelona Bar Association.
