Bird & Bird promotes Alberto Rodríguez as Corporate and M&A counsel

Bird & Bird has appointed Alberto Rodríguez as counsel in the Madrid office Corporate and M&A practice

The appointment of Alberto Rodríguez (pictured), who joined Bird & Bird in 2011, underpins the value of the firm’s internal promotion and recognises the lawyer’s track record within the firm of more than ten years. Alberto advises national and international clients on complex M&A, Venture Capital and Corporate Venture Capital transactions, mainly in the technology sector. Alberto is also an expert in search funds.

Rodríguez is also specialised in advising national and international companies in the video games and e-sports sector and actively collaborates with the Spanish Video Games Association (“AEVI”). He is also part of the specialised group of the office that collaborates with the Spanish Fintech and Insurtech Association (AEFI), having advised on some of the most relevant transactions in the sector in Spain.

Among his most recent transactions, he has advised the English listed group Gamma Communications on the takeover bid for 100% of the MAB listed company Voztelecom Oigaa360 S.A. and the subsequent delisting tender offer and acquisition of convertible bonds; in the last month, he has also advised on the incorporation of two search funds in Spain.

He holds a degree in Law from the University of Valladolid and a Master’s degree in Business Law (LLM) from the Instituto de Empresa, where he graduated with honours at the top of his class. He has also undertaken international studies at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University College of London (UCL). Alberto was in 2019 on secondment at Bird & Bird’s London office.

Lourdes Ayala, Madrid office Bird & Bird’s Corporate and M&A department partner, said: “We continue to invest in in-house talent. Alberto has an exceptional track record within the firm that will allow us to continue to grow in the corporate and M&A area, which is strategic for the firm and to consolidate our market position in its strategic sectors.”

Alberto Rodríguez added: “I am grateful to Bird & Bird for the opportunity to continue adding to the growth of the firm from our M&A area.”

With this promotion, added to the recent appointment of Pablo Berenguer as a new partner, the firm now has 16 partners and more than 70 lawyers in Spain, demonstrating the strength of the firm in our country and its strategic commitment to the Spanish market.
