Baylos joins Abion to boost global IP and tech expertise

Abion, a global provider of intellectual and industrial property (IP) services, has reached an agreement to incorporate the Spanish firm Baylos, which specializes in intellectual property, industrial property, and new technologies. The transaction is part of the group’s international expansion strategy and is backed by its majority shareholder, Bridgepoint.

Founded in 1943 by Hermenegildo Baylos, the firm advises national and international clients, with extensive experience in managing trademark portfolios and resolving market disputes. Its integration into Abion will strengthen both its international presence and technological capabilities in the coming years.

From Baylos, managing partner David Gómez describes the transaction as a step forward in the firm’s evolution: “This integration represents a natural evolution for Baylos. It allows us to expand our international reach without giving up our exclusive specialization in intellectual and industrial property.” He adds: “For our clients, this evolution offers a unique combination: the expertise and close attention of the entire Baylos team together with the international capabilities, resources, and technology of a firm like Abion.”

Abion’s CEO, Jesper Knudsen, states: “We are accelerating our ambition to build a global benchmark platform in intellectual property services. Integrating Baylos strengthens our legal depth in Spain and our ability to support clients with increasingly transversal and international needs.” According to him, the decision was driven not only by geographic expansion but also by strategic and cultural alignment: “We share with Baylos a long-term vision, a strong commitment to excellence, and a fully client-focused approach. This integration strengthens our value proposition and our capacity for sustainable growth.”

During a transitional period of six to 12 months, Baylos will continue operating under its current brand. It is expected to adopt the Abion brand throughout 2026, completing the integration process by the end of the year, becoming a firm of over 240 professionals with 17 offices across China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Ireland, the UK, Italy, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.
