Auren Legal partners with Women in Animation (MIA)

Auren Legal has signed a collaboration agreement with MIA (Mujeres en la Industria de la Animación), a non-profit association promoting the visibility, representation and leadership of women in the animation sector across Ibero-America, to provide its more than 250 members with specialised legal counsel.

Under the agreement, Auren’s Media & Tech practice will advise MIA members on the negotiation of intellectual property rights over their creative works, as well as on the protection and development of their projects. The firm will also counsel members on financial structuring and business models in a sector increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

Auren’s Media & Tech team advises companies and creators on intellectual and industrial property, technology and the audiovisual sector, covering entertainment and content projects, technology development and transfer, AI implementation, and the registration and defence of trademarks, patents and copyright.

Context and objectives

MIA is an open, multidisciplinary association grouping more than 250 professionals in Spain and Latin America. It represents and defends the interests of its members across cultural, professional, educational, economic, business, social and media spheres, with the aim of fostering a more equitable, diverse and sustainable sector.

The agreement is framed within both organisations’ commitment to nurturing talent, equal opportunities and the development of a more competitive professional ecosystem within the animation industry.

In the words of Daysi Cruz, president of MIA, “this agreement represents a fundamental step for our community. Women in the animation industry create projects with enormous potential, but they often lack the legal backing needed to protect and develop their work. Having access to Auren’s specialised legal advice allows us to strengthen our negotiating position, defend our rights and build more robust projects. This is exactly the kind of partnership MIA seeks: one that delivers real value to our members and contributes to a more equitable and professionalised sector.”

Pilar Sánchez-Bleda, managing partner of the Media & Tech practice at Auren Legal, notes that “the animation industry is experiencing a period of strong growth and transformation, and it is essential that talent has the right support to protect their creations and develop solid projects. At Auren, we want to contribute our expertise in the audiovisual field to help build a more professionalised, diverse and competitive sector.”
