Antas da Cunha Ecija becomes Europrivacy partner
Antas da Cunha Ecija has been named an official partner of Europrivacy by the European Centre for Certification and Privacy (ECCP), becoming one of the firms authorised to support organisations seeking certification under the scheme recognised as the European Data Protection Seal pursuant to Articles 42 and 43 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The partnership allows the firm to accompany organisations through the preparation and certification process before an independent, accredited body. According to Ana Bastos, partner, and Ana Catarina Silva, counsel, both in the firm’s Digital area and responsible for the new service, “this partnership enables the firm to accompany organisations in preparing for and obtaining certification from an independent and accredited body. In a context where organisations are increasingly required to demonstrate, in concrete terms, the effectiveness of their data protection programmes, the Europrivacy certification offers a robust and multidimensional methodology to validate compliance.” The lawyers concluded that “this initiative underlines the firm’s commitment to data protection, innovation and the creation of solutions that allow organisations to turn regulatory compliance into a factor of trust and value.”
About the Certification Scheme
Developed under the European Horizon 2020 research programme, Europrivacy is a certification scheme that allows data controllers and processors to independently and verifiably assess and demonstrate the compliance of specific personal data processing activities with GDPR principles and requirements. Organisations can select which activities to submit for evaluation, starting with the most relevant, strategic or sensitive ones, and progressively extend certification to other operations. The scheme applies to entities of any size and sector, whether private or public, controllers or processors, including those operating across multiple jurisdictions.
As an official Europrivacy partner, Antas da Cunha Ecija has assembled a team of professionals qualified under the certification scheme and created a service that provides support throughout the different preparation phases, from selecting priority activities for certification and conducting an initial compliance assessment (gap analysis) to identifying gaps, carrying out internal audits, assisting with follow-up audit preparation, and planning the progressive extension of certification to other activities.
