Pérez-Llorca relocates partners to New York and Madrid

Pérez-Llorca has moved two of its Colombian partners abroad, relocating Juan David Quintero from Bogotá to the firm’s New York office and Alejandro Sanabria to Madrid. Both lawyers will keep practicing Colombian law from their new bases.

Quintero, a partner in the Corporate and M&A practice, moves to New York, while Sanabria, a Tax partner, will work out of Madrid. The relocations are part of what the firm calls Project Scala, an internal initiative designed to build a fully integrated Ibero-American legal platform, coordinate advice for multi-jurisdictional clients and support the mobility and professional development of its lawyers.

The firm said the moves respond to growing investment flows between the Americas and Europe, and to the increasing interconnection of both regions with Asia and the Middle East. Companies, funds and investors are increasingly structuring deals that combine multiple jurisdictions, funding sources and decision-making centres, and the presence of Colombian-qualified lawyers in New York and Madrid is intended to let the firm link these opportunities more directly to its Latin American teams.

Quintero’s move to New York is “aimed at strengthening Pérez-Llorca’s relationships with US firms that regularly advise on transactions and investments directed toward Latin America”. He has more than 15 years of experience in local and cross-border M&A, private equity funds, joint ventures and corporate reorganisations, and is admitted to practice in Colombia and in the state of New York. He holds a Master of Laws in Corporate Law from New York University School of Law and completed business training at NYU Stern School of Business.

Sanabria’s relocation to Madrid “responds to sustained interest among Spanish and European investors and companies in identifying opportunities and developing business in Colombia and the broader Latin American market”, states the law firm. His background in international taxation and tax advisory work on M&A, financing, investment funds, infrastructure, energy and real estate investment is expected to bring Latin American market knowledge to teams supporting European investors entering, expanding or restructuring operations in the region.

Leadership structure

Iván Delgado, international executive partner at Pérez-Llorca, leads the firm’s international strategy from New York. He said the firm’s international strategy “starts from the premise that investments are no longer structured in isolation between two jurisdictions but increasingly involve companies, funds, financiers and advisers from different markets, and that bringing Quintero and Sanabria into the New York and Madrid offices allows the firm to bring knowledge of Colombian law closer to where many of these deals originate and are structured, to be closer to the US firms it works with, and to provide coordinated support to clients on their Latin American projects”.

Meanwhile, Pedro Pérez-Llorca, managing partner of the firm, temporarily relocated to Mexico City for a year at the start of 2026 to support the firm’s Americas team and reinforce the development of its Ibero-American platform from there.
